Rite Aid

Rite Aid

The Ask

Rite Aid had a clear ambition: evolve from a traditional pharmacy brand into a modern wellness partner. The goal wasn’t simply a visual refresh, it was to redefine how people feel about Rite Aid.

They needed a flexible brand system that positioned self-care as a daily investment in long-term health, while scaling seamlessly across digital platforms, in-store environments, and print communications.

As the Creative Director, my role was to evaluate the brand end-to-end and lead a strategy that aligned business objectives, customer expectations, and a rapidly expanding definition of whole health.

The Challenge

Rite Aid operates in a highly commoditized category dominated by clinical, transactional messaging. Pharmacies are typically associated with illness, prescriptions, and convenience, not inspiration, trust, or empowerment.

The challenge was twofold:

  • Shift perception from reactive healthcare to proactive wellness without sacrificing credibility.
  • Unify a fragmented ecosystem; digital tools, wellness programs, pharmacists, and physical retail, under a single, emotionally resonant brand idea.

I needed to speak to individuals, families, and caregivers simultaneously, while honoring both traditional medicine and alternative wellness solutions, all in a way that felt human, optimistic, and personal at scale.

The Creative Direction

I grounded the work in a single strategic truth: self-care is an investment in your most important asset, your health. That insight became the backbone of the rebrand and the filter for every creative decision.

From there, I infused strategic planning into every touchpoint:

Brand Positioning
I reframed Rite Aid as a wellness partner, one that helps people not just get healthy, but thrive. The brand voice evolved to feel knowledgeable yet warm, supportive rather than prescriptive, reinforcing trust while increasing emotional accessibility.

Messaging System
I built a modular messaging framework centered on access, personalization, and expertise. Stories highlighted 24/7 wellness teams, pharmacists passionate about whole health, and guidance spanning sleep, nutrition, essential oils, and preventative care, shifting language from transactional to invitational.

Visual & Experiential Strategy
Across digital experiences, we prioritized clarity, calm, and confidence, designing systems that reduced friction and supported ongoing engagement. In print and in-store environments, I emphasized warmth and approachability, reinforcing human connection at moments of decision.

Integrated Execution
Every customer touchpoint, mobile, in-store, online content, and print, was designed to reinforce the same core idea: wellness is ongoing, personal, and supported by people who care.

Each decision laddered back to one promise: Rite Aid exists to help you and your loved ones flourish.

The Results

The rebrand successfully repositioned Rite Aid from a destination for episodic needs to a brand designed for everyday wellness. By aligning strategy, storytelling, and design across digital and physical channels, I created a cohesive, scalable brand ecosystem built for long-term relevance.

The new system delivered:

  • Clear differentiation in a crowded, price-driven category
  • Stronger emotional resonance without compromising trust or authority
  • A unified framework capable of supporting future wellness initiatives and services

Most importantly, the brand narrative shifted the customer mindset, from patient to active participant in their own health journey. Rite Aid emerged not just as a pharmacy, but as a credible, human-centered partner in whole health.

Rite Aid. Don’t just get healthy, get thriving.
